I'm guessing this is old news for most of us, but it should be brought up for discussion here.

16 Gigs of Solid State Memory, no UMD drive, a 3.8 inch screen, gimmicky Bluetooth functionality, fold out controls, and what appears to be a insane man's attempt at control layout.

Hopefully, this is just a prototype for the PSP2 (which is almost due for development IMO). It's being released this fall, and the PSP-4000 is still slated for a December release. According to Kotaku, the PSP Go! will be selling for about $250 stateside. My job doesn't pay nearly enough for me to shell out for one of these, so I'll stick with my old PSP.

What about you guys? You buying or not?

But the important thing is that the old topics were given a proper funeral, and many of the younger topics were in attendance. Tears were shed, handkerchiefs were soaked, and the priest gave an eloquent eulogy. Also, the child boards were counted among the dearly departed, as they were not fed enough and thus I gave them an assisted suicide to end their suffering.

I'll buy it just for the novelty, and for taking it on trips and such so that I don't have to swap out UMD's,  but I will undoubtedly be using my PSP-3000 (and later 4000) as my primary portable gaming medium.

16GB is okay, and that could be anywhere from 6 to 10 games, depending on how many gigs each game is. Mem stick compatibility is nice, but we need to get some bigger mem sticks if this is going to take off.

Nice to see it's going to sell ALONGSIDE the PSP-3000, and not replace it.

Seems like this is more for the introductory gamer who won't be buying as many games. I mean, ten games on a single hard drive? Less if they're really high-enders like Crisis Core or if you have other data on the Go, like music and movies.

Make no mistake, it looks light, portable, and just a little fun, but there's no way this could be for people who want to bring their whole collection with them.

Mai, I don't think it looks that "icky", but it does look like a certain phone Sony put out a while back....

Also, it's supposed to be 44% lighter. Given how light the PSP-3000 is, this thing's a featherweight that is packing the exact same punch as the 3000. I'll go ahead and call that damn impressive. So yeah, the button layout is shitty and the screen is half an inch smaller, but this thing is light, portable, and powerful, and has a fairly decent internal memory. Methinks you be docking it because its different. And that's wrong.

In the end, this is all about money. Sony has taken more than a few bizarre market moves in the past; this is just another extension of said policy. Sony could just be testing the water here, and seeing which form of the PSP will be more successful so they know where to make their move when the time comes to finalize designs on the PSP2.

Still, the DSi supposedly outdoes this in terms of new features. It would be nice to see Sony try a LITTLE harder. Weight is hardly a feature here. The PSP-Slim & Lite is light enough. In terms of technical features, they killed it.

The PSP-4000 better rock the handheld gaming world in December, or Sony could lose a LOT of money...

Now Mai... hitting people never solved anything.

...nuking them, however, did.

The PSP has entered a new iteration where it will fit in most people's pockets, making it the first truly portable system since the GBA SP and Game Boy Micro.

I predict that due to it's portablility, this will do rather well. And the funny thing is that I am now okay with that.

I can learn how to be good on the new controls, and given that Beth was kind enough to reveal the UMD's top capacity at 1.8 gigs (round up to two if it makes it any easier), that means you can fit on at least 8 games on teh default flash memory; add in a high capacity memory stick, and you can fit even more than that.

And realistically speaking, do you even need more than 8 games at a time?

I am now going to side with the PSP Go!'s supporters and tout this little sucker as a logical advance. Hopefully, when the PSP2 comes out, it will follow this design but retain the UMD drive and feature a larger flash memory drive, maybe 32-40 gigs.

So, funny story. I was playing my PSP-3000, and the control layout is no worse. The Go's is more compact, but once you're used to it.... that probably won't matter. And in a convcersation I was having with someone not on these boards, I realized that pure digital files will load faster and with less drain on the battery, so it'll have better battery life too.
